Stoppage time equaliser spares Gers blushes

Rangers rescued a point against Livingston in stoppage time at Ibrox but the draw sees Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s lose ground on Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

The hosts had seen their Old Firm rivals prevail in a seven-goal thriller against Hearts earlier on Saturday afternoon, but were sluggish in their own game against a team they would have expected to comfortably bear ahead of kick-off.

Rangers had more than 80% of the ball during the game and peppered the Livingston goal with 25 shots in total – an average of one every three and a half minutes.

But Joel Nouble had given the visitors a shock early lead when he found the bottom corner from the centre of the penalty area in just the fourth minute.

There was booing among the home fans and even changes at half-time did little to improve the quality on display. But the Gers got their lifeline in the closing stages when Morgan Boyes was sent off, giving them just over 10 minutes to play against 10 players in search of a goal.

Eventually, John Lundstram emerged the hero. From not more than eight yards out, he managed to find the top corner from Ryan Kent’s assist and at least spare some of the blushes.

But having been beaten heavily by Celtic last month and this draw ending a run of four consecutive Scottish Premiership wins, the gap to the top of the table has now grown to four points.
