Sergi Roberto ruled out for at least a month with shoulder injury

Barcelona utility man Sergi Roberto faces a minimum of a month on the sidelines after suffering a dislocated shoulder in the club’s La Liga win against Athletic Club.

The Spaniard went down hard on his left shoulder in the closing stages of their 4-0 victory on Sunday and was unable to continue, leaving the field on a stretcher as Barcelona finished with ten players.

Head coach Xavi admitted his concern over Roberto’s injury post-match when also quizzed about an injury suffered by Gavi on the same night, and it appears their worst fears have now been confirmed.

AS report that the versatile 30-year-old has dislocated the shoulder and faces the next month on the sidelines, all but ending any lingering hopes of making Spain’s World Cup squad and possibly even ruling him out until the end of 2022.

First team doctor Ricard Pruna was able to perform a reduction of the dislocation in the dressing room after the game to reduce the damage, but La Blaugrana now face an extended period without their starting right-back.

It’s a huge blow for Barcelona and Roberto, who had stepped up and made the position his own in recent weeks.

Fortunately for Xavi, Hector Bellerin has returned to fitness after dealing with an injury since re-joining the club in summer, but is the only natural replacement available in Roberto’s absence with Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen still ruled out.
