Ivan Toney reveals admiration of Harry Kane and Didier Drogba

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has admitted his admiration for fellow forwards Harry Kane and Didier Drogba.

The Bees talisman was called into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the first time ahead of their September Nations League matches.

Toney has started the season in fine form for Brentford, scoring five goals in the Premier League already this season on top of the 12 he bagged last term.

The 26-year-old faced a press conference on his first day at England’s St George’s Park training base, and he was asked which strikers he looks up to, citing Tottenham’s Kane and Chelsea legend Drogba.

“I like a lot of strikers. I do like Harry Kane – when he gets a chance, nine times out of ten it’s in the back of the net,” Toney replied.

“I like the likes of Didier Drogba, I like to play his game sometimes, [he] put his body around, good in the air, in behind, finishing.

“But I kind of watch all strikers and just try and take tips from all strikers that have been involved in the game at the highest level and bring it into my game.”

Toney could make his Three Lions debut – with Kane or in place of – in Friday’s clash with Italy at San Siro. He has not represented England at any level before, and would become just the third player in Brentford history to play for the country’s senior side if he plays any part.

Southgate’s side sit bottom of Nations League A Group 3 and could be relegated with a loss in Milan.
