Nottingham Forest host Fulham on Friday evening in a meeting between two of the Premier League’s newly promoted teams.

Steve Cooper steered Forest into third place last season, two spots and ten points behind the second tier champions Fulham.

The Cottagers have been quicker starters in the top flight as well, collecting a pair of wins and draws from their opening six matches to sit tenth at this early stage. Forest, conversely, have lost their last three games, conceding 11 goals in the process.

Here’s everything you need to know about Forest and Fulham’s first top-flight meeting since 1968.

Nottingham Forest team news

Forest made a record-breaking 22 signings in the off-season but Cooper will be without at least three of his new recruits. Omar Richards picked up a nasty injury shortly after his summer arrival but could make his return after the imminent international break.

Moussa Niakhate and Orel Mangala both started Forest’s first Premier League victory this century against West Ham in August. However, Niakhate limped out of that win with a thigh problem that could sideline him until late October. Mangala subsequently picked up a hamstring issue which also leaves his availability in doubt.

Nottingham Forest Starting 11: Henderson; Worrall, Cook, McKenna; Williams, Yates, O’Brien, Lodi; Gibbs-White; Johnson, Awoniyi.
Bench: Hennessey, Biancone, Colback, Lingard, Kouyate, Toffolo, Freuler, Dennis, Boly.

Fulham team news

Harry Wilson recorded more assists than any other Championship player last season, including one at the City Ground, but is yet to feature in the top flight this term. However, the 25-year-old is inching towards a return from a knee injury.

Manor Solomon is suffering with a problem in the same area but isn’t as far along in his recovery process – although neither are expected to be ready as soon as Friday night.

Left-back Antonee Robinson is also unlikely to feature after injuring his ankle against Tottenham in Fulham’s most recent outing.

Fulham Starting 11: Leno; Tete, Adarabioyo, Ream, Mbabu; Reed, Palhinha; Decordova-Reid, Pereira, Kebano; Mitrovic.
Bench: Rodak, Duffy, Cairney, Chalobah, Willian, James, Vinicius, Diop, Kurzawa.

Cooper’s first defeat as Forest manager was at home to Fulham last October. The Tricky Trees got their revenge with victory at Craven Cottage in April but there has been a fair bit of turnover in Nottingham in the intervening months.

Forest may be the division’s most porous side – conceding an unrivalled 103 shots already – but can rely upon a home crowd which roared them to their only victory so far this term. Fulham‘s wait for a top-flight away win – which stretches back to March 2021 – may just drag on.

Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Fulham
