Barcelona to wear Drake’s OVO logo on El Clasico shirt

The logo of Drake’s OVO label will replace the Spotify branding on Barcelona’s shirt in El Clasico to celebrate the rapper becoming the first artist to surpass 50bn streams on the platform.

Spotify became the La Liga club’s main sponsor earlier this year, with the brand now featuring on shirts and in the name of the stadium as part of a deal said to be worth around $300m.

As part of that partnership, the owl logo of Drake’s label will feature on the shirt that Xavi’s side wear against Real Madrid at the weekend.

During the warm-up meanwhile, the Barça players will wear shirts with Drake’s name and the number 50 on the back, and the Spotify name on the front.

“Our alliance with Spotify goes beyond a mere commercial relationship. It is a strategic relationship through which we seek to bring together two worlds that can arouse emotion – namely music and football,” said Juli Guiu, Barcelona’s marketing vice president.

“For the first time in our history, we are replacing the name of our main sponsor on the front of the jersey with an internationally acclaimed artist, Drake.

“This initiative shows our potential to become a unique platform to offer experiences that help bring us closer to our fans while reaching out to new audiences around the world.”

In an Instagram post accompanied by a picture of him holding the shirt, Drake said that “this doesn’t feel real.”

Barcelona too will have reason to celebrate should they prevail against their rivals; a win would see them go five points clear at the top of the league.
