Alvaro Morata responds to Atletico Madrid exit rumours amid Man Utd interest

Alvaro Morata has insisted he remains happy at Atletico Madrid, amid rumours he is wanted by Manchester United this summer.

Morata has just returned from a two-year loan spell with Juventus, where he managed 32 goals annd 21 assists in 92 games, and he got this season off to a hot start with two goals against Getafe in a 3-0 win for Atleti.

His form is said to have piqued the interest of United, who are looking for attacking reinforcements amid uncertainty over the future of Cristiano Ronaldo – the Portugal international has vowed to reveal the truth about his situation in two weeks.

United have been prioritising other targets thus far and a move for Morata may not be the best move as the 29-year-old has confirmed he is happy to be back in Madrid.

“I’m honest with my work. I’ve always come here wanting to work, work and work and I can’t do anything else,” he told reporters after the Getafe victory. “What goes on in the transfer market is not up to me, the only thing I can do is train every day to improve.

Atletico are one of the best clubs in the world, there is a great team, a great human group and I am happy here. I have to keep working to keep improving.”

Morata’s comments came shortly after his agent Juanma Lopez ruled out a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano.

“He has started very well,” Lopez told El Chiringuito. “At the moment, he is at Atletico and he is very comfortable.

“Alvaro has a contract with Atletico Madrid, he is going to stay here.”

United are, however, exploring a move for Morata’s Atletico teammate Matheus Cunha, who replaced the Spaniard for the final seven minutes of the victory over Getafe.
